Our Projects

Our goal to achieve sustainable agriculture for smallholder farmers goes beyond the environment, nature, and the planet: we nurture resilient and healthy communities which have sustainable incomes, mutual relationships, and decent livelihoods.

Sustainable Agriculture

The principle of agricultural sustainability dictates that we must meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Our efforts to promote sustainable agriculture focus on empowering smallholder farmers to improve their quality of life while safeguarding the environment, nature, and the planet. We support through;

Climate Action

Climate change is a global issue that is affecting communities, lives, businesses and economies all over the world. SHCAN is working to support more smallholder farmers in building resilience and adapting to climate change through;

Women Empowerment

Economic empowerment allows women to control and benefit from resources, assets, and income. We have a special focus on empowering female farmers, as drivers for social change. We recognize that men remain an integral part of achieving healthy and thriving families.

Village Saving Groups

Small village savings groups can be an effective and complementary approach to financial inclusion and platforms for rural development in Uganda.

All farmers in our program are a part of local micro-credit groups called Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA). Through this, they not only grow their social capital, they also receive entrepreneurship training, and leadership skills. They are encouraged to set goals and save regularly. Members are also able to borrow from their group’s revolving fund, and repay loans at affordable interest rate.
