The principle of agricultural sustainability dictates that we must meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Our efforts to promote sustainable agriculture focuses on empowering smallholder farmers to improve their quality of life while safeguarding the environment, nature, and the planet.
Over 75% of the population in Uganda relies on agriculture for their livelihoods, yet soil fertility depletion is a critical challenge. National studies indicate that Uganda loses an estimated 80 million metric tons of topsoil annually due to erosion and unsustainable farming practices.
We are helping smallholder farmers adopt agroecological techniques, including composting, agroforestry, and organic soil amendments, to restore soil fertility and build long-food security. We provide training, resources, and demonstrations to showcase practical, low-cost methods for improving soil health.
According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, nearly 60% of farmers cannot afford high-quality seeds or fertilisers upfront, limiting their ability to increase yields and incomes.
Through the Input Loans program, we provide farmers with premium seeds and organic fertilisers at the start of the season, enabling them to plant on time and boost productivity. These inputs are repaid after harvest, when farmers have cash in hand, helping them avoid the risk of high-interest loans or predatory lending.
We’re harnessing the power of biochar—created from agricultural wastes like crop residues—to restore depleted soils. Biochar improves soil fertility, enhances water retention, and sequesters carbon, helping farmers achieve higher yields sustainably.
We are an NGO that is helping rural smallholder farmers in Uganda to grow their way out of extreme poverty. We do this by promoting sustainable agriculture, climate change mitigation actions and amplifying women’s inclusive in community development.
